A Behind the Scenes Look...

At custom, handcrafted reclaimed barnwood sliders.

We’ve talked about custom sliders before. But… It’s about time we take you behind the scenes so you can get a better idea of how they are made.

So, let’s start at the very beginning: wood selection.

Stacked white planks at our warehouse

There are so many different types of reclaimed barn wood, varying in species and color. Some of the most popular for sliders are grey, silver, red, white, marbled, and patina. We have also made a few custom sliders from a mix of these colors. We have used batten boards, tongue and groove boards, and shiplap for some of our custom sliders (when we say there are a TON of options, we mean it!).

If you’re considering a reclaimed barn wood accent for your home or office, don’t fall for the wood that has been manufactured to look like it is 150 years old. Nothing compares to the authentic, original look you get from true reclaimed barn wood. Why settle for anything less?

With every slider we make, we try to capture as much of the authentic and original look as possible. Each slider is built just as they were 200+ years ago for the gorgeous barns our reclaimed barn wood originates from. Because of this, the sliders we make not only have the truly authentic look from the barn wood, but also from the way they are structured.

Now, sliders don’t necessarily need to be used as actual sliding doors. We have made them as small as 2ft x 2ft to cover up a dart board and as large as 20ft x 16ft for an actual barn. The custom sliders we made for our own shop are pictured below!

Sliders can be used for your bathroom (using them between the master bed and bath has become increasingly popular), as a room divider, for the pantry or laundry room, and even as an accent hung on a wall. We recently had a customer purchase a custom slider as an accent on the outside of their home (see the pic below).

If we are being completely honest here, custom sliders may be one of our favorite projects to work on. Each one is perfectly unique and captures this amazing piece of history with every board.

Now, the real question is…

Can you picture a room in your house that could use a custom reclaimed barn wood slider?

We have made sliders for homeowners, as gifts for friends and newlyweds, and, of course, we’ve made ‘em for ourselves! And we always have room to make more. As we said before, making one-of-a-kind authentic sliders is one of our favorite projects to work on.

When it comes to the custom reclaimed barn wood sliders we make, our goal is to craft a functional, gorgeous piece that actually looks like it came from the 1800’s and 1900’s. With all of the wood that has been manufactured to look like it is weathered and reclaimed (and pieces made with that wood), we want nothing more than to create actual custom pieces that capture a moment in time from 150-200 years ago.
